Life....Liberty and the Persuit to Tell People to Shut Up!!!

Last week I read about a group of college students in CA and their Black History Month celebration called the "Compton Cookout". Understandibly it pissed people off, and they are wanting the school to take action, even though there is no leagality to it. Apparently these students members of various Fraternities decided to throw a party and ask that the attendees wear clothing and the like that would make them appear GHETTO and apparently "black". I am white, and I am not going to lie, I fount the invitation a bit funny, it was something right off of SNL or a bad T-shirt from TShirtHell. Don't get me wrong, I am not racist, nor do I think all black people act or dress this way, but I do think that we have become a society that is quick to be offended and are ready to swing at the slightest noise. This has made it so people are afraid to speak their mind which is our constitutional right and one of the main ideals that formed this country. Now if they had decided to tar and feather a fellow student then they would have crossed the line, but what they did was incorporate all the sterotypes and stupid facts people have dreamed up and used them for a party idea. The way I look at it is, how upset would everyone be, if a group of college students, black or white, dressed up and had a Redneck Party? I doubt it would have even made a local headline, let alone national news. We are so afraid of doing or saying the wrong thing, for fear of stepping on someone elses toes, but we are the same people who watch comedians say what we are thinking and laugh in the safety of our own homes. Why is it ok for them and not for the everyday individual? We need to back off of each other and stop breathing down the other person's neck. We have thr right to say and do as we please within the confines that we dont infringe on someone elses right to say and do what they please, so if a group of kids want to have a party and dress a certain way let them, they aren't keeping you from doing whatever it is in life you wanted to do so just SHUT UP!
